R&B icon Keith Sweat keeps it comin' with JUST ME, his debut album for Atco - and his first studio set since 2002's Rebirth. It continues the charismatic Harlem-born singer-songwriter/producer's timeless tradition of smooth and sexy grooves on cuts including the sultry “Suga Suga Suga” featuring Paisley Bettis, “Love You Better” - a destined-to-be-classic duet between Keith and Keyshia Cole - and “Just Wanna Sex You,” a scorching signature Sweat jam. Another stand-out, “Somebody,” delights as Sweat's first track to feature the vocal maestro singing falsetto.

Earl Klugh - The Spice Of Life

Posted in Albums

This new collection touches on the many inspirations of Klugh's lifetime, playing through with the authority and impact of a greatest-hits album, and at the same time, the fresh discovery of a journeyman still in the prime of his creativity. The many pleasures of THE SPICE OF LIFE encompass solo, trio and full-band pieces, lush orchestration, warm and vibrant production, and original solo guitar compositions - all of these in Klugh's unfailingly positive, fresh and imaginative style. In an album full of highlights, Klugh reinterprets four of his favorite standards, and three-time Grammy winner and longtime collaborator Don Sebesky contributes five orchestral arrangements, including Earl's boyhood favorite "Canadian Sunset"; his reinterpretation of the Thelonious Monk classic, "Bye Ya"; and a beautiful, witty retro-style revival of "C'est Si Bon." Grammy-winning flute virtuoso Hubert Laws guests, and award-winning composer Eddie Horst arranges the chamber-group string accompaniment, on the Klugh original "Heart of My Life."

THE SPICE OF LIFE also features a clutch of memorable yet effortless Klugh originals, among them: the properly atmospheric "Ocean Blue"; "Driftin'," a warmly melodic pop piece; the forward-looking funk "Sleepyhead"; and "Snap!," a taste of the "old school" suggesting Klugh's Detroit childhood, where he first encountered such musical mentors and influences as Yusef Lateef, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, George Benson and the members of Motown Records' ace house band, the Funk Brothers.

Estelle - Shine

Posted in Albums

1 - Wait A Minute (Just A Touch)
2 - No Substitute Love
3 - American Boy Feat. Kanye West
4 - More Than Friends
5 - Magnificent Feat. Kardinal Offishall
6 - Come Over
7 - So Much Out The Way
8 - In The Rain
9 - Back In Love
10 - You Are Feat. John Legend
11 - Pretty Please (Love Me) Feat. Cee-Lo
12 - Shine

Estelles charms can stay intact on record, they must be even more intense in the studio. That might explain why the guesting A-listers are so touched by her presence. On American Boy, Kanye West a man more accustomed to boasting about his Cristal consumption seems tickled by the singers love of Ribena, before Estelle weighs back in with a chorus reminiscent of Patrice Rushens mighty 1982 soul standard Forget Me Nots. Future hits are forming an orderly queue.

She has denied any extra-curricular involvement with Legend, but hearing them together on the rhapsodic soft-soul shuffle of You Are, its understandable that many were moved to ask the question. Retooled from the verses of George Michaels Faith, No Substitute Love is full of the sorts of things you hope Cheryl Cole might have told the faithless Ashley once the game was up. The romantic overtures of Come Over fit snugly into the hook-and-pull of an ace lovers rock melody.

Best of the lot, though, is In the Rain, on which Estelle apes the mores of a classic R&B summer jam, until declaring, Im talking about English summer/ You know, where it rains. And if, on the same song, she appears to smirk a little on the line Apparently you only get one chance, you can hardly blame her. Theres a nothing-to-lose confidence in these songs that defies resistance.

14 - Ride

Like many artists these days, Doss doesn't have a major-label budget or marketing machine behind her. She recorded most of Still at her house or Davis'. She collaborated with Japanese labelmate Angela Jones by sending files back and forth via the Internet. And though Still will be her third disc distributed in Japan via Dome Records, she handles her US business by herself (with Davis' help) on Conya Doss Songs Inc., juggling music-career work with her other career as a special-ed teacher in the Cleveland Public Schools. But her work life is becoming undeniably more complicated. She's performed in London, where she's developed a following and has sold enough CDs in Japan now that she's looking toward going there. And she recently recorded and performed in Switzerland with popular European artist Seven.

"We'll see how long I can do it," she says. "I won't compromise either one. But the experience of being able to travel and do what I do is effortless, not stress-free but it reduces stress. Sing, get paid for it, go back to your room and relax. Trying to do two careers running parallel, it's difficult. I'm doing everything, getting the CD mastered, getting the artwork done, making sure the posters are printed up, driving to get the posters, driving to the next city to play. It's not so much about being a control freak, it's just about getting things done."

Terrance Quaites was never a thug in the true sense of the word. His hard-working parents instilled positive values and did not hesitate to set him straight when he was wrong. "From Monday to Saturday, I was hanging out, partyin, chasing girls, and getting into trouble, straight-up acting like a fool," he admits. "But Sunday my mother dragged me out of bed to go to church. In retrospect, sending me saved my life. Well it did something anyway." - TQ His music is a mix of West Coast hip hop, based on artists like Too Short, Ice-T, Ice Cube, 2Pac and Eazy-E. As far as hip-hop goes, it influenced his writing along with the older R&B acts such as Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.

The Inner Beauty Movement builds on the signature sound that first caught listeners' attention in 2001.  That's when Atlantic Records released Lina's solo debut, Stranger on Earth, which spun off the hits "It's Alright" and "Playa No Mo." In addition to earning critical acclaim, Lina's impressive vocal styling and unique merging of music past and present elicited comparisons to Billie Holiday, Macy Gray and Erykah Badu. Two collaborators from that album, producers Jeeve and Travis "T-House" House, reunite with Lina on "Inner Beauty."

Her constant desire to give back through music is the impetus behind the upcoming Save Your Soul compilation series that will be released through the artist's own MoodStar Recordings. Save Your Soul is for people who have a passion for music, not just to drive a Bentley," says Lina. "It's not about looking for clones but helping new artists develop who they truly are."
And who Lina truly is can be heard on The Inner Beauty Movement.

"What music is missing right now are artists like Lauryn Hill who can touch people's souls," says Lina. "This is what music is for. I'm not here for the attention. I'm an instrument of God, here to help people realize themselves."

That's Lina. No clone  an original.

Mondo Grosso, also known as Shinichi Osawa, is an artist on the Avex Trax label. His work portrays genres from Acid Jazz to House, though it mainly stems from underground club music. The name Mondo Grosso is Italian for "big world".
Osawa was born on February 7, 1967. He was originally the leader and bassist for the popular Japanese musical group Mondo Grosso, which formed in Kyoto in 1991 on the For Life Records label. However, in 1995, the group was disbanded, and Osawa worked more on his own, collaborating with many artists such as Monday Michiru, Amel Larrieux, UA, Chara, and Dragon Ash. In the midst of his collaborative work in 1997, he became a solo producer.

Q-Tip - Kamal The Abstract

02 Do You Dig You
03 A Million Times
04 Blue Girl
05 Barely In Love
06 Heels
07 Abstractionisms
08 Caring
09 Even If It's So

ip-hop veteran Q-Tip's second solo offering is a far cry from the slick beats and sticatto rhymes of 1999's Amplified. The album, Kamaal The Abstract, is a genre-defying blend of nü-jazz, '70s soul, rock and funk; "Abstractionisms," featuring Grammy-nominated alto sax player Kenny Garrett, is the only track that even comes close to the Q-Tip we all know. The rapper evokes the Prince of yesteryear on the smooth "Blue Girl" and the jammy "Do U Dig U," which features contempo jazz-maker Gary Thomas on flute and sax and up-and-comer Kurt Rosenwinkle on guitar. Thomas's flute ripples over and in-between the track's programmed beats like a butterfly lost in a concrete metropolis while Rosenwinkle's guitar buzzes and grinds on the horizon. The album's surprises are plenty: the urgent "Barely In Love" is a pulsing funk-rocker while the piano interlude "Caring" is startling in its simplicity (if only for the sheer fact that Q-Tip is singing). Elsewhere, "Even If It Is So" and the guitar-driven "Feelin'" are downright contagious. With Kamaal, one of hip-hop's finest has once again redefined his game—and upped the ante for the whole hip-hop genre in the process.
